Anti-Graffiti Treatments

DETAG offer a cost effective, high quality anti-graffiti/tag surface protection service to protect most surfaces from future attacks. We would usually recommend that a surface be treated once we have removed the graffiti and/or tags from it.

We treat surfaces with an invisible, breathable, porous layer impregnation service which then repels paint, pen and marker from effectively bonding to a surface.

We use either sacrificial or non-sacrificial treatments. Sacrificial coatings need to be reapplied more frequently and also after any new graffiti/tags is removed, but allow a building to breathe more.

Non-sacrificial coatings do not need to be reapplied once any new graffiti or tagging is removed and under optimal conditions, they can last up to 5 years.

If you don’t have any graffiti or tags on your building’s surfaces and you are in a tagging hotspot, it might be prudent to protect them now. You then won’t have to worry about the damage aerosol paint or markers could do to your walls, stone or brickwork if you are targeted in the future.

Options available to protect surfaces.

Non-Sacrificial Treatments

We offer two types of non-sacrificial treats. The first is water based and lasts up to 5 years. You don’t need to reapply it after having future graffiti removed. It can be applied to any exterior surface and is virtually invisible once dry. It offers slightly less breathability than sacrificial treats.

We may also look to treat surfaces that are repeatedly attacked by unwanted graffiti and tagging differently. The product we work with is a clear, highly durable, low-odour, washable, again non-sacrificial coating that is resin based but still breathable to a lesser extent, extra tough & can be used both internally and externally. It is a versatile coating with excellent adhesion to already painted surfaces (emulsion and alkyd based), concrete, stone, render, metal, cladding, murals & plastic surfaces. Typical environments where its highly durability & stain resistance excel include nurseries, schools and universities, gymnasiums, hotels and restaurants, factories, offices and any public area subject to levels of potential graffiti. In most instances, any graffiti/tags that are added on a pre-treated surface can just be washed or wiped off.

Sacrificial Treatments

Made especially by the UK’s leading restorative experts, this water based crystalline wax emulsion is micro porous and sacrificial. Its the best option for letting surfaces underneath breathe and can be removed with superheated water or steam. It can be applied to natural stone, brick, concrete and timber to protect these surfaces from graffiti attack and is virtually invisible once applied. Any client having graffiti removed from one of these exterior surfaces, particularly historic buildings, should consider this product as a protective treatment option. The only real drawback of sacrificial treatments is they have to be reapplied after removing any future graffiti/tags.

An added benefit of any of these treatments is they help protect exterior surfaces from from future dirt & dust build up and algae-moss-lichen regrowth, and make surfaces more resistant to carbon staining, oil, grease, and soot pollution.

Although there is an upfront cost outlay in getting these treatments done, the cost of removing any future graffiti and tags from treated surfaces is greatly reduced.
